چکیده

It is well known that deploying a proxy at the boundary of wireless networks and the Internet is able to improve the performance of transmission control protocol (TCP) over wireless links. Snoop protocol, acting like a transport layer proxy, performs local retransmissions for packets corrupted by wireless channel errors. In this letter, an improvement for the Snoop protocol is proposed to shorten the time spent on local recovery by sending extra copies in every local retransmission attempt. This enables TCP to quickly return to normal, effectively eliminating several of the problems that may cause throughput degradation. key words: TCP, wireless networks, performance enhancing proxy, throughput performance, Snoop protocol

Optimizing Internet Flows over IEEE 802.11b Wireless Local Area Networks: A Performance-Enhancing Proxy Based on Forward Error Correction

The success of the IP and its associated technologies has led to new challenges as we try to use it more widely in everyday communications. In particular, the drive toward wireless and highly heterogeneous infrastructures supporting IP services transparently and independent of the underlying physical layer is a challenge. In this context, this article focuses on introducing an implementation of...

Performance of Different Proxy Concepts in UMTS Networks

It is well known that the large round trip time and the highly variable delay in a cellular network may degrade the performance of TCP. Many concepts have been proposed to improve this situation, including performance enhancing proxies (PEPs). One important class of PEPs are split connection proxies, which terminate a connection from a server in the Internet in a host close to the Radio Access ...

Performance Evaluation of TCP over WLAN 802.11 with the Snoop Performance Enhancing Proxy

The growing popularity of wireless devices used to access the Internet and an increasing use of the TCP/IP protocol suites, indicate that in the near future TCP protocol will be frequently used over the wireless links connecting wireless devices. The characteristics of wireless links are significantly different from characteristics of wired network links because data is frequently lost due to t...
